The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) to drive advancements in Delhi’s power distribution sector. The collaboration focuses on expanding grid-connected solar rooftop PV systems, energy storage solutions, electric vehicle integration, and smart distribution technologies.

The srategic collaboration aims to accelerate renewable integration, smart distribution technologies, and energy storage solutions across Delhi’s power distribution network. The MoUs were signed by Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, while senior officials from BRPL and BYPL signed on behalf of their respective companies.

Under the agreements, TERI and BSES will address key technical challenges in integrating a higher share of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) into the power grid. The partnership will also explore new collaboration opportunities, with BSES providing utility-level data to support TERI’s research on grid resilience and efficiency. Additionally, both organizations will jointly conduct capacity-building programmes for stakeholders, including channel partners, project developers, financial institutions, government bodies, and distribution utilities, to advance new energy initiatives.

Dr. Vibha Dhawan highlighted Delhi’s rising electricity demand and the need for transformative solutions like energy storage and advanced demand management. She cited the successful ‘Energy Wise, Energy Rise’ program with BRPL. She expressed optimism that the newly signed MoUs will enhance collaboration on distributed energy resources, addressing challenges such as voltage regulation and grid protection.

Reinforcing Dr Dhawan’s insights, BSES officials emphasized the importance of shaping young minds to tackle future energy challenges. They highlighted that the energy transition is both revolutionary and transformative, requiring strong partnerships with organizations like TERI. Discussions also focused on accelerating rooftop solar adoption, particularly through collaboration with the government for the effective implementation of the Suryoday Yojana.

BSES officials further recognized TERI’s potential role in research, policy advocacy, and consumer awareness campaigns. Key discussions addressed electricity demand management, DISCOM operations, and energy storage solutions. A strong emphasis was placed on capacity building, particularly in empowering women and integrating them into the power sector workforce. Additional areas of collaboration explored demand response frameworks, ESG integration, renewable energy grid adaptation, and differential tariffs.

The signing of these MoUs reinforces TERI and BSES’s shared commitment to strengthening India’s power distribution ecosystem. This partnership marks a significant step towards a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy future for Delhi and beyond.
