Serentica Renewables has expanded its partnership with Hindustan Zinc Limited to increase renewable energy supply to the company. Under this agreement, Serentica will enhance Hindustan Zinc’s round-the-clock renewable energy capacity from 450 megawatts to 530 megawatts. This move will allow Hindustan Zinc to meet over 70 percent of its total power needs from renewable sources. The energy will come from a hybrid mix of solar, wind, and storage solutions and will be delivered using an innovative Time Block-based system. This system guarantees a minimum of 315 megawatts of renewable energy supply in every 15-minute time block, ensuring consistency and reliability.

The project is designed as a captive structure, spread across resource-rich locations in India. It is expected to be fully operational by 2027. With this arrangement, Hindustan Zinc aims to reduce its reliance on conventional power and cut its carbon emissions by nearly 70 percent. The initiative is part of the company’s broader goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Akshay Hiranandani, CEO of Serentica Renewables, stated that this agreement represents a breakthrough in delivering firm and reliable renewable energy to industrial customers. He highlighted how the solution addresses the challenge of intermittency, offering a steady and dependable power supply to Hindustan Zinc’s operations.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. He mentioned that securing the majority of their power from renewable sources is a significant step in their climate action strategy. By integrating renewable energy into its operations, Hindustan Zinc is positioning itself as a leader in the low-carbon transition while continuing to supply essential metals like zinc and silver for the global energy shift.

This agreement introduces an advanced method of renewable energy procurement that goes beyond traditional round-the-clock models. It uses forecasting, grid management, and modern energy storage systems to provide scheduled and dispatchable power. This approach ensures energy reliability without compromising operational efficiency for industries that consume large amounts of power.

Serentica Renewables plays a significant role in India’s push toward a net-zero future by offering firm renewable energy solutions to energy-intensive sectors. The company’s innovative model supports industries in their transition to sustainable energy without sacrificing stability.

Hindustan Zinc, a part of the Vedanta Group, is a major player in India’s zinc market, supplying 75 percent of the country’s primary zinc. The company also exports to over 40 countries and is known for its efforts in water conservation, being a certified 2.41 times water-positive company. This partnership with Serentica Renewables is expected to further strengthen Hindustan Zinc’s sustainability efforts and its contribution to the global clean energy transition.
