NTPC Group has announced a major investment of ₹96,000 crore in Chhattisgarh, providing a significant boost to India’s sustainable energy initiatives and supporting the country’s energy transition and Net Zero goals. The announcement was made during the Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025 held in Raipur. NTPC Limited, along with its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), signed multiple agreements with the Government of Chhattisgarh to develop various energy projects in the state. These projects will include nuclear, pumped hydro, and renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hybrid technologies.
The first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NTPC Limited and the Government of Chhattisgarh. This agreement involves the development of a 4,200 MW nuclear power project within the state. The estimated investment for this nuclear capacity addition is around ₹80,000 crore. This project is expected to significantly enhance the state’s power generation capacity while contributing to clean energy targets.
The second MoU was signed between Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) and NTPC. This agreement outlines an investment intention of approximately ₹5,876 crore for setting up a 1,200 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project at Sikaser, located in the Gariyaband district of Chhattisgarh. Pumped hydro storage is a key technology that will help balance the variability of renewable energy sources and provide stability to the power grid.
The third agreement, a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA), was signed between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and CSPGCL. Under this joint venture, the two organizations will set up renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of up to 2 GW. These projects are estimated to require an investment of around ₹10,000 crore. The renewable energy generated through these projects will help CSPGCL meet its Renewable Generation Obligation (RGO) and assist the Chhattisgarh electricity distribution company (DISCOM) in fulfilling its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO).
The signing ceremony of these important agreements took place in the presence of several key dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. Also present were Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Energy Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, and Managing Director of CSPGCL Shri Sanjiv Kumar Katiyar, along with other senior state officials.
Representing NTPC Group at the event were Shri Pradipta Kumar Mishra, RED WR-II & Ash NI; Shri Prasenjit Pal, Executive Director (Nuclear); Shri J C Kakoti, General Manager Hydro; and Shri Bimal Gopalachari, AGM (NGEL). These agreements underline NTPC’s commitment to expanding its clean energy portfolio and supporting Chhattisgarh’s growth as a key player in India’s renewable and nuclear energy sector.
