New Energy Equity (NEE), a leading developer and financier of community and commercial solar projects, has announced a new partnership with the Harlem Consolidated School District to deliver a 5.54 MWdc solar energy project in Illinois. Originally developed by BOW Renewables and later acquired by NEE, the project is situated on land owned by the school district and will provide significant economic and environmental benefits. These include lower electricity costs for the Harlem Consolidated School District in eastern Winnebago County and residential customers in the Commonwealth Edison service area.

This initiative marks NEE’s first participation in Illinois’ Public Schools Program, a key component of the state’s Adjustable Block Program (ABP) designed to accelerate renewable energy adoption. The Harlem Consolidated School District solar project will harness clean, renewable power to offset a substantial portion of the district’s energy consumption, benefiting over 39,000 students across 11 schools. Additionally, it will provide broader access to solar energy for the local community, reinforcing Illinois’ transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Beyond cost savings, the project fosters environmental stewardship, equipping the district and participating residents with an opportunity to engage in clean energy adoption. As Illinois pushes toward its ambitious renewable energy goals, this initiative serves as a model for integrating sustainability into public education while delivering financial and ecological advantages.
